Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman

Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman have long established themselves
as one of British folk music’s most rewardingly enduring partnerships. Bonded by an unseen alchemy, Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman have entwined their professional and personal relationship into an enviable class act of imaginative songwriting and musicianship.
The Dartmoor-based husband and wife have twice won the coveted ‘Best Duo’ title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as ‘Best Duo’ at the Folking.com awards and Spiral Earth awards. They consistently deliver assured, distinctive performances whether live or recorded. In three decades of performance, they have never been trapped in a groove – always bold and innovative, mixing traditional song arrangements with their self-penned material which reels from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad, the political to the passive.

Dallahan

Forged out of the traditional music scenes of Scotland and Ireland—yet influenced by the sounds of the Balkans, North America, and far beyond—Dallahan have spent over a decade guiding audiences through a musical world tour of their own making. Their dazzling live show, marked by restless creativity and stunning virtuosity, has come to be defined by its refusal to sit still. Guitarist and singer Jack Badcock, banjo player Ciaran Ryan, accordionist Andrew Waite, and fiddler Benedict Morris form the band that has evolved continuously while somehow remaining rooted in the traditions that first brought them together.
Now, with well over a decade together, Dallahan stand as a veteran touring outfit whose sound has matured without ever losing its exploratory spark. Their worldwide cult following—built slowly, show by show, across several continents—reflects a band that has grown into its own identity while continually pushing its boundaries. Their latest studio album, Speak of the Devil (June 2023), captures this ongoing evolution: seasoned, adventurous, and unmistakably Dallahan

John Kirkpatrick

John Kirkpatrickhas been dancing, singing, and playing his way around the English folk scene since he joined Hammersmith Morris Men in 1959 at the age of twelve. Displaying a rare skill on a variety of push-pull squeezeboxes – the melodeon, the button accordion, and the Anglo concertina – he has been fully professional since 1970, not only with vast amounts of solo appearances, but also in all kinds of duos, trios, and bands – including spells in Steeleye Span, The Albion Band, Trans Europe Diatonique, in a long term duo with Roy Bailey, Band of Hope, lengthy stints with Richard Thompson’s Band, The Sultans of Squeeze, Brass Monkey, and Home Service. In the mid 1990s he led his own John Kirkpatrick Band.

Out in the wide world John has contributed music, song, and dance to a great number of plays in the theatre, and to a lesser extent radio, television, and film. As a virtuoso session player his squeezeboxes can be heard on hundreds of recordings, and as a creator of new work in all these fields he has established an enviable reputation.

John fills the room with an irresistibly joyful noise, topping his sparkling squeezebox playing with lusty vocals, all presented with lashings of wit and humour.

The Urban Folk Quartet

Over their fifteen plus years on the international folk scene, UFQ have achieved something remarkable – garnering a reputation as a crowd-pulling, energising act, whilst also maintaining fierce commercial and musical independence. Their output is built on hearty fiddle-led music that draws heavily from celtic dance forms and traditional song – but from there on in it is unlike any folk band you’ve ever heard. UFQ’s approach to the folk ethos is to embrace any and every influence that genuinely makes sense of their time and place and makes sense in their music. From funk grooves to middle-eastern melodies, afrobeat to north Indian rhythms.
